Our Kindergartners started the unit Kindergarten in Motion. This unit focuses on the "Big Idea" of describing motion and exploring motion in terms of the forces that affect motion. Kindergartners are encouraged to think like scientists and begin to develop observation and communication skills in science.
This week we investigated what kinds of motion are observable through activities on the playground. Their were 5 stations: slide, swings, monkey bars, swing bars and the spinner. Kindergartners rotated through each station, tested the station and making observations about the kinds of motion the playground equipment and our bodies make.
- Make purposeful observation of motion and forces.
- Generate questions based on their observations.
- Plan and conduct simple investigations into how things move.
- Manipulate simple tools that aid observations and data collection.
- Construct simple charts from data observations of moving objects.
- Share ideas about forces and motion through purposeful conversations.
- Communicate and present finding of observations.
- Develop strategies for information gathering.
- Demonstrate scientific concepts through illustrations, performances, models, exhibits and or activities.
