Wow! Our first week of STEM was a BLAST! We discussed what STEM stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and we went over our 6 Key’s to success:
1). We RESPECT each other.
2). We TRY our best.
3). We are a TEAM.
4). We LEARN from our MISTAKES.
5). We CREATE
6). We CELEBRATE each other’s success.
We then headed right into our FIRST Engineering Project!
Each student chose a block and sat in a circle; after asking me a question about my life or our classroom STEM class, they placed their block in the center of the circle to create a UNIQUE TEAM structure! Along the way we discussed terms such as support, gravity and balance. The creations were spectacular!
Next, students were broken up into teams of 3 and given the challenge, using all of their blocks to create a UNIQUE structure of their choice. We focused on our 6 Key’s of success in doing this challenge. Some groups were able to complete our 2nd Challenge to use ALL their blocks to design and construct TWO unique towers that are the exact same height. The structures were incredible and the students were very proud of their creations!
What a FANTASTIC week!
